Believing in Thyself

The Power of Self-belief: How to believe in yourself?

“Believe you can and you are halfway there”, quoted Theodore Roosevelt illuminating the humongous power of self-belief. When you believe in yourself, no obstacle seems insurmountable and you would find an answer to every question that bothers you. Belief in yourself can literally create miracles in your life as well as in others’ lives. The human brain can be likened to a treasure house from which limitless wealth can be withdrawn. The hitch is, we don’t realize it.

In this article,, we shall learn about the potent power of self-belief and also look into ways to strengthen it/ cultivate it fresh. We shall, also, peek into the miracle-working powers of our subconscious mind.

 What you think you create

As rightly quoted by Buddha, ‘what you think you create, what you feel you attract, what you imagine you become’. Everyone carries beliefs about who they think they are, what they deserve, and what they are capable of doing in this life. These beliefs are so powerful that they manifest as our life conditions. Taking a close look at what we believe about ourselves and what is possible for us can open up the door to a whole new way of being.

Everything starts in our minds, and then it materializes in the physical world.

Believing in yourself, your current capacities, and the potential you have will increase not only your motivation but also your ambition. You'll start having more energy, setting higher goals, surrounding yourself with people that are on the same path as you are and that might have achieved what you want.

Also, Self-Belief is the first step to let others know how great you are. If you don't believe in yourself, other people will notice that and won't trust you as much. But if you do believe in yourself, people will be attracted by your energy, they'll want to know more about what you're doing and what you're capable of.
“Motivation & Mindset are one of the 4 main pillars in my mentoring programs, self-belief being the key element” said Alejandra Marques, Goal achievement mentor.

Basically, it is impossible to live outside of what we believe is possible, beliefs are that powerful. But the good news is that we can absolutely change our beliefs. Louise Hay wisely said, "A belief is just a thought you keep thinking." If we want to change our beliefs, we first need to change our thoughts. It requires practice and consistency, but is very rewarding! “As a life coach, this is a large part of how I support people in creating the lives they desire”, said Diane Martinez, holistic life coach. Self-belief is a habit everyone can build but not everyone knows how to do it on their own.

Cultivating self-belief: How to believe in yourself?

The power of self-belief comes from within. Self-belief springs from self-love. That's an easy answer, right? But what I really mean is that self-belief is something that gets to be cultivated. You see, you're born with it, innately. Life and adult influences start to cloud this. The power comes from building resistance in your life. Let's say you're facing a difficult situation that you need to overcome. How you overcome it and what you do to overcome it can either increase your self-belief or diminish it. It all depends on your perspective.

Self-belief comes from the act of believing in yourself consciously every single day. It's a muscle that you build over time based on your past experiences and your perspective. The more you practice it every day, the easier it will get. This can happen through a variety of methods that are unique to you; however, there is ONE thing that is for sure: ‘whether you believe in yourself or you don't you are right’ as stated by Henry Ford. So the power behind that belief in yourself comes from the actual belief system you have in yourself. Are you in constant beat up? Do you think that you do it all wrong? Are you questioning and looping everything that you do or say? These are all signs that your self-belief is something you get to work on. The power is innate there. “You can be powerful in your low belief in yourself or in your high belief in yourself. You get to decide where to designate the power depending on the inner growth work you are willing to do” said Jeanette Esquivel, Health and Life coach. Our brains work better when we are more positive and we perform better in those moments.

When we incorporate certain things in our lives like using positive affirmations,  assertive body language, walking with our heads high, acting as if we believe in ourselves, integrating people we admire who may appear to have all the confidence in the world and mimicking them, this is going to start self-empowerment and self-belief. Even if you don't believe it now, creating a ritual, mantra, a daily habit, takes practice, and it will change those beliefs about oneself in the future.

Self-belief and the path to success

“Self-belief is absolutely essential for success. That's because success requires a lot of hard work over a long period of time. And often with little reward. Without self-belief, you won't sustain the hard work” quoted Jon Rhodes, Clinical Therapist.

For example, say you want to succeed in the sport. Then you must practice hard for many years. And usually without pay. If you didn't believe you can succeed, then you would give up well before giving yourself the chance of success.

The same goes for business. You must usually work hard to develop your skills and grow your business for a long period of time. You may even lose money for a while. You MUST have the self-belief to continue this journey to success!

The placebo effect is a great testimony to the fact that your brain can achieve its desire through the power of self-belief.  It is a widely used term in science and medicine. Despite the fact that the human brain is so complex and intrigue, it can be tricked. A placebo is anything that seems to be a ‘real’ medicine but isn’t actually. Doctors and therapists have healed innumerous patients through the application of the placebo effect. The base principle that helps the placebo effect work is BELIEF. In that case, you believe the doctor or the medicine or both. If a simple placebo effect could do so much, just think of what your self-belief could do.

Making use of the power of the subconscious mind to build self-belief

Unlike our conscious mind, the subconscious mind is subjective, implying, it accepts everything you impress upon it. It's a storehouse of memory and accepts everything you say, think, and feel. It works 24 hours a day, and 365 days a year relentlessly. It never rests. After impressing a thought or suggestion on your subconscious mind, the next thing to do is to live that moment, imagine it vividly, feel consciously all sorts of emotions associated with it. Repeat it as often as possible. Your subjective mind processes your emotions and accordingly it comes up with ideas to help you achieve your thing. That's why they say that the answers to many questions can be found when you are asleep. Your thoughts lead to ideas which in turn set you to action.

Our subjective mind is most active in the time prior to sleep, and early in the morning right after getting awake. It is so because the subconscious mind works more efficiently when other senses are in abeyance. But, in order for it to work, you must believe your thoughts. The proverb, as you think is it done unto you, is very true.

Concluding: ‘The Power of Self-belief: How to believe in yourself?’

“Everyone and everything that is here, is here because it needs to be here. It is inherently important, vital for the existence of the world” said Pinchas Taylor, Life coach. The mission and contribution that your soul was put here for is something that nobody else in the world at present, past, or future is able to accomplish in the same way. In the same way that no two people have the same fingerprints, no two people share the same mission. The eternal force that created this universe has put us here because it is confident that we will complete the mission. The eternal force believes we can, so we must believe we can.
